ILat summers run for
President of Red Sox Nation saw me end up in the top 25 and also
tallied the largest internet fan base of any candidate. My
proposal for a Red Sox Senior Nation was hailed as one of the
best proposals and is in the works to coming to fruition.
My intentions, if
elected, is to lead the growth of Red Sox Nation here in Rhode
Island to unheralded
proportions and preserve the rich history of the Red Sox
baseball club, as both a loyal fan and historian. I want to insure that we
keep the dream alive for the youth of today so they too have
memories to hold on to and share with their children. After all,
children are our greatest resource for the future. Through the
grass roots game of baseball they’re able to learn skills such
as team building, the importance of good mentoring and strong
leadership to name a few.
I am going to create a
“Senior Red Sox Nation” to bring our senior fans which are so
important to this franchise closer to our organization and fans
of all ages. My father had Parkinson’s disease for ten years
before his passing and we were fortunate enough to be his
primary caregivers and ensured he never missed a game. Through
visits and planned events such as a “Senior Red Sox Nation Day”
at Fenway Park and “Bring the Red Sox to You” days at various
senior centers and homes I hope to accomplish this.
I want to utilize my
experience of fundraising and spearheading committees making
this what I feel an obtainable goal. Through my work I am
fortunate enough to raise funds for these various organizations
by donating my artwork as I have done over the years. For
example, my work has been donated in the past to the Day Kimble
Children’s Hospital Charity organization. Expanding on this, I
would like to personally visit all the children’s hospitals in
the New England region, and possibly beyond, to meet with youth
and host events on site. Hold a contest for “Kids Nation” to be
part of a musical video for my song track “Come to Papi” which I
composed and lyrically co-written for Sox slugger David Ortiz.
The song, by demand of the fans, was used on “David Ortiz Night”
at Fen way Park to celebrate his setting a new Red Sox single
season homer record. I plan on donating all proceeds of video/cd
sales to a charity of David Ortiz’s choice.
Moving on with the
subject of our youth, a first priority would be creating a
“Papi’s Kids Club” to spread the goodwill of David Ortiz and
his charitable efforts with rewards for the kids for their
involvement in helping the community.
As a
Nationally Syndicated Sports cartoonist, I along with the
assistance of our “Sox Nation Committee”, will be working on a
regular basis to raise money for the Jimmy Fund and other
charities which the Red Sox Organization is affiliated with.
High on my agenda will be exploring other charities/events that
will continue establishing our fan club as an outstanding
organization within our community. It is also me intention to
bring my already established global following to achieve these
goals.
I would go to local
schools and put on demonstrations on behalf of Red Sox nation,
spreading the word and enjoyment to the youth while at the same
time, sharing and educating the children on baseball/Red Sox
history.
Our existing, as well
as our future Red Sox Nation Members, will have new exciting
weekly giveaways. One of these giveaways will include a limited
edition lithograph series of Red Sox players that I will create
in my classic form specifically for Red Sox Nation. Giveaways
could also include a Frankie Galasso published Original Artwork.
“Kids Nation” will have
the opportunity for a FIVE22 musical event for the whole family,
coloring books, Red Sox kid’s calendars and more!
About myself:
I have been a sports and editorial cartoonist since 1987 a
winner of several New England Press Awards. My works have
captured and honored more Red Sox players in the past decade
than any other sports cartoonist to date. Keeping in the spirit
of helping charities, recently I was honored to present Curt
Schilling with a Tribute to him to benefit his efforts with the
Boston chapter of the ALS Foundation “Curt’s Pitch for ALS” and
created Wily Mo Pena’s logo for his MOPEACE Foundation. I
regularly work with and donate to the Boston Liver Foundation,
the Jimmy Fund and several other local charitable organizations,
my work includes organizing softball tournaments, bowling
tournaments and more to help raise funds.
In closing I’d like to
thank you for taking the time to learn more about me and my
platform as your candidate. Together we can do great things
within Red Sox Nation and our community. I would appreciate your
vote and I look forward to serving you as Governor of Rhode
Island for Red Sox
Nation
